The submission system saves your progress after every step. Most authors complete it in 20–30 minutes once files are prepared.

- 02RequirementsConfirm originality, ethics approval, anonymisation and template use.
- 03MetadataTitle, abstract (with word count), 3–8 keywords and subject categories.
- 04AuthorsAll authors with affiliations, ORCID iDs and CRediT contribution roles.
- 05FilesAnonymised manuscript, title page, figures, tables and supplementary files.
- 06DeclarationsFunding, competing interests, data availability, AI use and suggested reviewers.
- 07Review and submitCheck everything in one view and submit. You receive a submission ID by email.

Any future APC will be announced at least six months in advance and will not apply to manuscripts already submitted. Waivers will apply to authors in low- and lower-middle-income countries; editors are not informed of waiver requests.
